Fujitsu UMPC Update
The Fujitsu FMV-U8240 convertible UMPC is looking like it is going to be the coolest of the second generation UMPCs (despite it being Fujitsu's first attempt. Great pictures are available all over and online retailers like Dynamism and Geekstuff4U should have them available soon.
The pictures make the device look really interesting, but by looking at a picture of it next to a person we can see just how small it is. I think the screen will be fine, but the keyboard will be a sticking point for many users. That said, I bet it will be better than that on the Samsung Q1 Ultra or the Sony UX.
The price is going to be an issue with this model as well. To use Samsung's Q1 Ultra as an example again- the launch model sells for $1200. We don't know exactly what the FMV-U8240 will sell for when it hits the States, but Geekstuff currently has the price at almost $2000. This is the price for an import model, but it's a good indicator that the U8240 won't be cheap. While $2000 won't get your a Sony G1 or a TZ or a Thinkpad Reserve, you could still get some very good stuff with it- like 2 Sony UX UMPCs (at the current sale price), a hooked up Thinkpad X61s, a Dell D420 and a smartphone, or maybe 10 Asus Eee computers. If you need tablet functionality you will be more limited, but there are alternatives out there for less.
