Is someone finally thinking critically about video games? I don't mean writing in a professional manner or extensively testing a game before writing about it or anything like that- there are a lot of people who are doing that already, but rather thinking seriously about the games, the actual gameplay, putting the games in context, comparing them to other titles, etc. I just stopped by Action Button to check out their review of God of War 2. This game, which has been getting great reviews all around was rated at zero stars. That's right zero. Such a harsh rating may seem like nothing more than simple contrarianism, but they back up the rating with some good points. I think zero out of five four is probably a bit on the harsh side (I tend not to take numerical ratings very seriously) but the article was a good read and it got me really thinking about the game and some of the decisions made by its designers. Probably not a site for everyone, but I'll give it a shot- just subscribed via RSS.
