MediaTemple's Grid (the hosting service this blog is on) is a great idea, but has had some operational issues. The company has been relatively open about the problems (at least with its users) and has made large improvements over the past few months. While the first month or two of my experience with the Grid (the service's first month or two) were not great and had a lot of downtime, speficically due to MySQL and PHP related problems, things have been working quite well lately. MT's blog has a great post about the original design, the new design, and how they fixed the problems. While I originally loved the idea of the Grid, and then soured on it due to poor performance, I am not only back in love with it, but i have become a big MediaTemple fan due to the company's openness, integrity, and commitment to performance.
